New Providence island is situated roughly in the center of the Bahamas archipelago. Nassau, the country's capital, largest city and commercial hub is located here. The island is 21 miles long and 7 miles wide. It is the eleventh largest of the Bahamas islands and the most densely populated, home to some 260,000 people, about 80 per cent of the country's entire population
The heart of downtown Nassau sits directly behind the main port area. The city retains elements of bygone eras through its colourful blend of old world and colonial architecture.
Paradise Island, connected to New Providence by two bridges, is an idyllic tourist mecca.
